A great book for girls between ages 5-12. This book is packed with great stories about girls living their horsey dream is Girls and Their Horses (American Girl Library)

We think young horse-mad girls will really identify with the characters in this book. It talks about different types of riding (both English and Western) and there are some really tear out good trading cards explaining about grooming and parts of the saddle.

Although this book does not go into a lot of detail about horse care it does have plenty of good quality pictures of lots of different types of horses.

For something that will appeal to age 6 - 16 is Jumping for Kids This book offers an easy to follow well illustrated guide to help even the most wary rider learn to jump confidently.

Of course, we are not suggesting it as a substitute for proper jumping lessons with an instructor but it certainly sets out the basics and inspires readers to give jumping a try. Lots of fun!

Kids (and adults!) will absolutely love Thelwell's Horse Box: Containing - Angels on Horseback, Thelwell Country, A Leg at Each Corner, Riding Academy by Norman Thelwell. Buy it for all your horse-mad friends Age 6 - 96!

They will have any young rider in stitches with the hilarious cartoons of a thelwell (Shetland Pony) in all sorts of escapades - hard to pick out the best because there's just so many giggles - our favourites must be the clipping and loading encounters!

We have to say that we still get pleasure out of these books even though we are well past the age of their intended audience. Happy Reading to you all!
