Horse Colours - Dun
DUN - variations include Golden Dun, Silver or Blue Dun and Red Dun Dun horses and ponies are characterised by a dorsal stripe - a thin line of black or darker brown hair running from the base of the mane to the tail.
White
facial markings
are common but legs are typically black or dark brown to the knee.
Dun horses can vary quite dramatically in the shades of coat colour from a lustrous dark golden colour in the first picture to a faded mousy tone (the Silver Dun) that looks like it's gone through the wash too many times!
Mane and tail colour will vary from a dark brown or black on the Golden Dun to a mouse brown colour mixed with silver on the Silver or Blue Dun.
Less common is the Red Dun where chestnut hairs are mixed evenly throughout the coat to give a warmer hue and the dorsal stripe is made up of darker chestnut hairs.
