Ruby's Horse Diary - August 2009

Welcome to the August edition of the Horse Diary - hasn't the summer flown? Ruby is growing fast as the picture below shows!

We promised you some pictures of her mum and dad so here they are!

Ruby's mumThis is Ruby's Dam (mum). She is a registered Part-Bred Welsh Section B mare.

She has a beautifully sculpted, slightly dished head which is typical of the Section B with tiny ears and a kind eye. She has lovely elevated paces and is a real head-turner.

Find out more about the characteristics of the Welsh Pony of Riding Type (Section B) by clicking on this link.

Ruby will probably reach approximately 12.2hh at her adult height which is nearly the same as her mum and ideal for a child's pony.

Ruby's dad Her Sire, a Registered Miniature Spotted Stallion, is pictured next to a very good friend of his!

Standing at 10.3hh he is quite a bit smaller than Ruby already but has a very sweet temperament which he has passed onto her together with his distinctive colouring.

Ruby is already starting to get her winter coat - so we expect she will once more be really woolly!

She is continuing to have fun with her friends, Disney and Penny and especially Tilly who is pretty much three times Ruby's size. Always good to have some big strong friends we think!

Ruby will be due her second vaccination at the end of September as part of the first course of treatment to completely immunise her against Influenza and Equine Tetanus. She was a proper trooper with the first one thanks to a very sympathetic vet so fingers crossed the next one will go smoothly.

Until the next time...bye for now.
