Horse Diary Update - July 2009

So - it's July already and time for our third Horse Diary update.

Ruby is almost unrecognisable from the ball of fluff we bought 3 months ago. She has shed her winter woolies completely and looks radiant in her sleek summer coat.

She has been introduced to lots of "firsts" this month from being microchipped and vaccinated against flu and tetanus to trotting up in hand.

We have also found her to be increasingly inquisitive in her daily routine - even being very brave and walking under a line full of washing blowing in the breeze. Keep going like that Ruby and you will be bombproof!

She has made friends with a couple of the bigger horses turned out in her field and does not seem remotely bothered that she is the smallest of the bunch. We know that inside that tiny frame beats a really big heart so perhaps she thinks she is really 16 hands!

She seems to be very placid in the field although the occasional mad dash round the field is not unknown which reminds us that she is in fact still a baby.

The summer grass and a small evening feed has meant that Ruby has now outgrown her 3ft 6" outdoor rug so we have invested in a smart new version to get her through all the summer downpours that seem to be ever present.

Ruby continues to love being groomed and willingly allows us to pick all four feet up (separately of course!) after tea every evening as part of her routine.

During August we will spend more time practicing leading Ruby in hand and taking the time to introduce her to new sights and sounds.

Have a great August and we will be back before you know it with our next instalment! Return to our Main Horse Diary page for the latest "Ruby" news!
