What's Your Favourite
Horse Riding Activity?

Deciding on the horse riding activities you intend to participate in forms the second factor in our Step 1 - Choosing The Right Horse.

It is hugely advantageous if the horse has some previous relevant experience, particularly if you are new to this activity.

Horses with experience can pass that on to you and will be excellent "confidence givers" to help you progress in your level of ability. These are sometimes known as "schoolmasters".

A Gentle Hack or A Showjumping Pro?

Do you want a "happy hacker"? Or are you intending to compete regularly in local Riding Club Events such as showjumping, hunter trials or showing classes?

Whatever you decide, always ensure that the breed of horse you choose is suited to the particular discipline you have in mind. For example, heavier breeds, such as the Shire or Heavyweight Cob are not built for whizzing round a course of showjumps, but will be ideal for pleasure rides or a relaxing hack through the lanes.

Are you perhaps wondering what is the best age of horse to buy? We've got that covered too in Step 1 of our Buying Guide where we look at the importance of The Age Factor! Click on this link to find out more.
