Saddlebred - Zar

by Linda Kern
(McCordsville IN, USA)

Good Zar-ma - My Tall Dark and Handsome Hero

Good Zar-ma - My Tall Dark and Handsome Hero

This is Zar. He was my first almost Saddlebred. His owner, my friend, was going to give him to me. And this was quite an honor, because he was a veteran show horse, winner of many blues, and beloved already. But he knew he was sick and showed us he couldn't be my first horse by not acting normally when I rode him and showing he was lame on the exact day when I looked at another potential riding horse. I knew Zar for about two years.

He was tall, dark and handsome. If he were a man, I would have married him! He had a sense of humor, and you always knew where you stood with him. You were in - Or you were out! I am glad I was in, because with that blue eye-he was quite capable of giving you the hairy eyeball! He was very dignified and gentle. And my heart was broken when he became so severely sick, he needed lie down in the magnificent pasture and wrap the carpet of earth around him. I will miss him always.
